Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. The board serves an area of 8,673 square kilometres within Bruce and Grey Counties. This includes the beautiful and rugged Bruce Peninsula in the north, a part of the Niagara Escarpment that is popular with hikers and outdoor enthusiasts for its surrounding 850 kilometres of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay shoreline. The scenic Beaver Valley and renowned ski slopes of The Blue Mountains border the eastern part of the district, while several kilometres of sandy beaches, meandering rivers and welcoming communities adorn the Lake Huron shore to the west. In the south, one of the best family canoe routes in Ontario can be found in gorgeous Saugeen country. While the district's geography is mostly rural, the City of Owen Sound has been recognized as a Cultural Capital of Canada with its small shops, restaurants, urban shopping mall, museums, art galleries, theatre for performing arts, and brand new regional recreation centre.
